Chinese President Xi Jinping called on the nation to follow the path of green development and strive to peak carbon emissions and achieve carbon neutrality as scheduled.

Xi made the remarks while attending an annual voluntary tree-planting activity in Beijing.China aims to have CO2 emissions peak before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060, Xi announced at the general debate of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly last September.

Xi planted six saplings of different types of trees and talked with some children participating in the activity, encouraging them to strive for all-around development.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of China’s voluntary tree-planting campaign, Xi noted.
