P5-M grant awaits women-led enterprise

The Department of Science and Technology will be looking for five women-led social and technology-based enterprises to receive a grant of up to 5 million pesos each, an executive said.

Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development launched the Women-Helping-Women: Innovating Social Enterprises program last March 1 and will open the call for proposals in June.

The council’s executive director Enrico Paringit said, “The WHWise program seeks to reduce gender biases by offering an exclusive program for women social entrepreneurs, so they will not compete with men for early-stage funding and assistance.”

Those who can avail of the program are women-led social enterprises that help or organize communities by providing sources of income, livelihood opportunities, and education; and women-led technology-based enterprises requiring technology to carry out their operations efficiently.
