Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visits the Philippines

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Manila over the weekend, holding separate meetings with President Rodrigo Duterte and Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr.

Wang and Locsin witnessed the signing of cooperation documents and the ceremonial unveiling of a plaque to mark the establishment of Bank of China Manila as the Chinese currency renminbi Clearing Bank of the Philippines.

Wang also attended the launching ceremony of the Manila Forum for China-Philippines Relations to help strengthen mutual understanding, boost mutual trust and overcome differences, as well as the Award for Promoting Philippines-China Understanding via video link with former Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Wang noted China hopes to forge a blue economy partnership, or the “sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods, and jobs while preserving the health of ocean ecosystem.”
