Expect more worrisome Covid-19 variants after Omicron: scientists

Scientists have warned that Omicron’s whirlwind advance practically ensures it will not be the last version of the coronavirus that will hit the world.

They emphasized that every infection provides a chance for the virus to mutate, and Omicron has an edge over its predecessors since it spreads much faster despite emerging when parts of the world have been vaccinated and hit with COVID-19 in the past.

Experts emphasized that they cannot say how the new variants will look like or how they will shape the pandemic, but they said there is no guarantee the next ones will cause milder illness.

For now, they stressed the need for wider vaccination as it is proven effective.
