Global Death Toll of COVID-19 tops 14,600

A pneumonia outbreak was first reported in the city of Wuhan in China’s Hubei province in December 2019. Experts have attributed the outbreak to a novel coronavirus that has since spread across China and the rest of the world. 

As of 8 p.m. on March 18, there are over 81,000 confirmed cases in China and 120,000 abroad. There have also been over 3,200 deaths in China and 4,700 abroad.

It has also been reported that over 70,000 individuals have recovered from the virus, however, health experts have warned of the risk of reinfection for the recovered. 

The United States has reported confirmed COVID-19 cases in all its 50 states. A total of 7,769 infections have been detected with 118 deaths as of Wednesday night. New York State is hardest hit, accounting for nearly one-third of the nationwide confirmed cases. 

The wives of the prime ministers of Canada and Spain have tested positive for COVID-19.
