The World Health Organization Solidarity Vaccine Trials that will assess the efficacy and safety of COVID-19 vaccines may begin this month, Department of Science and Technology Undersecretary for Research and Development Rowena Cristina Guevara said.

Guevara added the Philippines, which will fund the trials, is preparing by readying trial sites, training healthcare workers and recruiting project personnel for the implementation.

She added, “What we are doing for this vaccine clinical trials is to recruit volunteers from areas with high number of COVID-19 cases. They will undergo the protocol that was approved by the Food and Drug Administration and our ethics review board.”
