Security guard Archie Paray, the hostage-taker of several people inside a mall in Greenhills, San Juan City, was arrested Monday night after he released the hostages after a 10-hour ordeal and aired his gripes to the media.
At about 8:15 p.m., Paray agreed to release the 70 hostages provided that he would be allowed to bring his pistol with him. He then faced the authorities and answered queries from media.
Paray, who had been at his post about two years, alleged that there were corrupt practices in the mall’s management and the agency that he worked for, which was SASCOR Armor Security Agency, who he said took bribes from mall tenants.
Paray also claimed that security guards were being sacked without any explanation and investigation.
His address to the media was cut short when police officers, including members of the Special Weapons and Tactics team, pinned him down. His pistol was seized and he was stripped of his shoes.
