The Colorado fire along the United States Central California Coast has led to evacuations and closed roads. It is currently the only fire listed on CalFire’s website for 2022.
The wildfire started late last week and is already 25% contained. Since it started in the Palo Colorado Canyon in the region of Big Sur, 32 kilometers of Highway 1 were closed near Carmel-by-the-Sea to Andrew Molera State Park. The fire covers over 425 hectares and about 400 people have been evacuated.
Firefighters say that strong winds and extremely low humidity have fanned the flames and authorities say that the drought remains the likely culprit for the spread of the Colorado fire.
However, it also comes as drought conditions have been improving in the state because of the recent heavy rainfall.
