The opening meeting of the 13th National People’s Congress started at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on March 5, attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping and other state leaders.
Premier Li Keqiang delivered a government work report on behalf of the State Council to the national legislature for deliberation.
Li said China was the world’s only major economy to achieve growth in 2020 and has won a complete victory in the fight against extreme poverty. With 2020 GDP growth of 2.3 percent, a better-than-expected recovery was achieved in the country.
In the past five years, over 60 million urban jobs were added and the world’s largest social security system was established.
As the national legislature prepares to review the draft outline of the 14th Five-Year Plan, China has accomplished the major goals and tasks of the 13th FYP, Li affirmed.
The country has set its GDP growth target at above 6 percent for 2021.
