NCOV UPDATE 2/17

As of 5 p.m. on February 17, there were over 110 million coronavirus cases globally, with the death toll reaching over 2.4 million, according to John Hopkins University. The good news is that there are over 84 million recoveries.

The United States is leading the world in both COVID-19 infections and fatalities, with over 28 million confirmed cases and 500,000 deaths.

The World Health Organization approved the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use, the second jab to have received WHO authorization, after the Pfizer vaccine.

Japan launched its coronavirus vaccination drive on Wednesday by administering Pfizer’s vaccine shots to hospital workers in Tokyo.

After vaccinating the initial group of 40,000 medical workers, Japan plans to move on to the remaining 3.7 million medical personnel who come into contact with COVID-19 patients, and then to the 36 million people aged 65 or above.
