9 Japanese Wanted for Fraud, Deported

The Bureau of Immigration deported Monday nine Japanese wanted in their country for allegedly committing telecommunications fraud.

The nine boarded a flight to Tokyo at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 at around 9:40 a.m. They were among the 36 Japanese fugitives arrested by agents of the BI Fugitive Search Unit in Makati in November last year.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said the remaining 27 Japanese are being held at the BI detention facility at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig pending their deportation.

Morente said the BI board of commissioners issued a summary deportation for the Japanese fugitives, adding that their continued presence in the country “poses a risk to public interest.”

Japanese authorities alleged that the suspects were members of an organized crime ring engaged in telecom fraud.
