People come first: China’s vaccination free for public

Chinese residents will not have worry about paying for voluntary COVID-19 vaccinations, government officials said.

Coronavirus vaccination fees in China – including the vaccine cost and service fees – will be jointly borne by the medical insurance fund and the government reserves, according to Li Tao, deputy head of China’s National Healthcare Security Administration.

Li said herd immunity against the novel coronavirus disease requires a large proportion of the population to be vaccinated, therefore, extraordinary measures are needed to address the expensive cost of vaccination.

He added the free vaccination scheme “is conducive to maximally safeguarding the fundamental interests of the people,” and it fully demonstrates China’s commitment to putting people’s health and life first.

The country has already administered over nine million COVID-19 vaccine doses, according to Zeng Yixin, deputy head of the National Health Commission of China.
