The family of a seven-year-old girl who was hit by a stray bullet while watching a fireworks display to greet the New Year near her home in Tala, Caloocan City has yet to get justice six years since the incident.
Stephanie Nicole Ella’s mother said she missed her firstborn amid the New Year’s Eve celebration.
Ellaine Ella said her daughter was “(loving, smart, and had many hopes in life).” She added that it took her a long time to accept Stephanie’s death.
She added, “(Even when you sleep, you think about her. I still get flashbacks. As a mother, it is painful, and you try to accept the reality of it all.)”
Police authorities previously checked the house of the family’s neighbor as they suspected it may have contained an unregistered gun. However, the family is still looking for justice.
Judge Jimmy Santiago, a former sharpshooter of the PNP-SWAT, said Stephanie’s case was an example of the tragedy brought by the indiscriminate shooting of guns to greet the New Year.
