NCOV UPDATE 1/3

As of 4 p.m. on January 3 there were over 84 million coronavirus cases globally, with the death toll hitting more than 1.8 million, according to John Hopkins University. The good news is that there are over 57 million recoveries.

The United States is leading the world in both COVID-19 infections and fatalities, with over 20.4 million confirmed cases and over 350,000 deaths.

Saudi Arabia announced on Sunday the lifting of the ban on all international flights as well as land and sea entry. The two-week ban was part of the precautionary measures against the spread of a mutant variant of coronavirus detected in a number of countries.

South Korea will extend unprecedented social distancing rules in Seoul and neighboring areas until January 17, the Health Minister said on Saturday, including a ban on gatherings with more than four people.

India on Friday approved a vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University for emergency use, the first in the country.
