The Social Security System approved over 4,000 unemployment benefit applications filed online since the state pension fund announced the procedure.
SSS president and CEO Aurora Ignacio said, “From June 22 to July 6, 2020, we already released an initial 59.8 million pesos worth of unemployment benefits to 4,392 qualified members who submitted their online application through their My.SSS accounts.”
The pension fund expects the figures to increase “as more companies announce retrenchment and closure of businesses due to the pandemic crisis.”
The most online applicants came from Luzon with 1,697, followed by the National Capital Region with 972, Visayas with 894, and Mindanao with 822.
In terms of mode of disbursement, 99% received their cash benefits through their savings accounts. The unemployment benefit is equivalent to half of their average monthly salary credit for a maximum of two months.
