The latest coronavirus patient in the Philippines to recover from the disease is among the 400 Filipino repatriates from the virus-stricken Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan, the country’s health ministry said Tuesday.
The patient, only identified as PH25, is a 31-year-old man from the central Philippine province of Negros Oriental.
He was confirmed to have acquired COVID-19 on March 9. When the Department of Health announced a day later that PH25 and eight others tested positive for the disease, the total tally of confirmed cases in the country rose to 33.
The DOH said then that PH25 was asymptomatic and was allowed to stay at the New Clark City in Tarlac province, north of Manila, where all repatriates were housed for quarantine.
The latest advisory showed that the patient was transferred to the Jose Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital in Pampanga province, where he tested negative for COVID-19 twice, a requirement before being discharged.
