Putin vows more vaccines for Philippines

Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed to increase Russia’s delivery of Sputnik V vaccines to the Philippines to boost the country’s vaccination program.

Putin made the commitment after a telesummit with President Duterte to mark the 45th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Russia Federation.

He also declared readiness to further enhance bilateral engagement with the Philippines in trade and investments, energy, infrastructure development, defense and military-technical cooperation.

In a dispatch by the Office of Presidential Protocol, Malacañang said the Philippines is negotiating to buy 20 million doses of Sputnik V, developed by Russia’s Gamaleya Institute.

Duterte thanked Putin for making the vaccine available to the Philippines and speedily delivering the second batch of 50,000 doses to the country on May 30. The country received the first batch of Russian vaccines on May 1.
