Department of Science and Technology Undersecretary for Research and Development Rowena Cristina Guevara disclosed that the DOST will begin a “real world” study this month to determine efficacy rates of vaccines after they have been administered to people.
The department is also supporting an 18-month study by June or early July that will look into mixing different brands of vaccines among Filipinos. It will study the safety and efficacy of using a different brand for the second dose, and as a booster shot for those who have completed their vaccine doses using a single brand.
DOST Secretary Fortunato dela Peña earlier said the study has an approved budget of 133 million pesos and will have 1,200 participants.
Guevara also disclosed that three more pharmaceutical companies have sought the approval of the Food and Drug Administration to conduct Phase 3 clinical trials of coronavirus vaccines in the country.
