Unidentified Firm Interested to Take Over Honda Plant

A firm which already has presence in the country has expressed interest to take over the assembly plant of Honda Cars Philippines in Laguna, according to Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez. He declined to name the firm, but said it is not engaged in the automotive industry.

Honda recently announced the closure of its plant in Sta. Rosa which assembles the City and BR-V vehicles by March 25. The plant’s closure will affect 387 workers.

The move is being made as Honda seeks to optimize resources while delivering reasonably priced and good quality products. Apart from the Philippines, Honda is also closing production plants in other countries like the United Kingdom, Turkey, Argentina, and Mexico.

Lopez said that there are companies that want to locate in the country as well as expand their current operations in the Philippines. They can take over from companies that are leaving.
