A pneumonia outbreak was first reported in the city of Wuhan in central China’s Hubei province in December 2019. Experts have attributed the outbreak to a novel coronavirus that has since spread across China and the rest of the world.
As of 9 a.m. on March 5, there are over 80,000 confirmed cases in China and 13,600 abroad. There have also been 3,015 deaths in China and 260 abroad.
South Korea has one of the worst outbreaks in the world with 5,766 infections and 35 deaths.
Italy is now on high alert with over 3,000 confirmed cases. Schools are closed until March 15.
Iran has 92 reported deaths, with around eight percent of lawmakers testing positive for the virus.
Human-to-human transmission of the coronavirus has also been confirmed.
