IPOPHL ramps up drive against fake goods

The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines has joined hands with a global association of brand owners and professionals to step up efforts against counterfeiting.

The office said a memorandum of understanding was signed by the agency’s director general Rowel Barba and International Trademark Association president Tiki Dare for the partnership to fight counterfeiting.

Barba said, “We are thankful to INTA for always standing with IPOPHL in the past years…We elevate our collaborative relations to a more solid partnership where we will be pursuing a multi-pronged strategy on capacity building, awareness, and global dialogue.”

INTA will be helping IPOPHL examiners boost their capability to evaluate emerging products in designs, trademarks, certification marks, non-traditional marks, famous and well-known marks.

They will also work with the Bureau of Customs for improved cross-border cooperation and seizures.
